About
Background and Approach
I was always a gifted artist, but my journey really began when I was accepted to St. Edward High School, an elite college-preparatory school in Lakewood, Ohio. I started motion graphics in 2004 through the Maya student program there and fell in love with it. Through the college-prep track I took videography, photo editing, and 3D motion graphic design. I got my first camera and fell in love with capturing video and photography. I made mock commercials, studied the principles of animation, and worked hard toward my senior show, which was presented and awarded at the Beck Center through the Cleveland Museum of Art.
In 2007, I went to Malone College (now Malone University), where I pursued a dual degree in non-profit church work and photography/graphic design. There I worked in both darkroom photography and digital art for social media, building a range that spanned traditional and emerging formats. I put those skills to work in the real world, creating graphic designs and promotional materials for the churches I interned with. Moving into seminary in 2012, I paid off the majority of my student loans working in the presbytery; designing websites, logos, and promotional materials for local churches and nonprofits. I created everything from videos to logos to print materials.
After graduating, I moved into freelancing to help support my church ministry, and I've freelanced continuously from 2014 to the present. In 2018, I launched my own company, Rustic Recreations, marketing myself and other local businesses. In 2022, I closed Rustic Recreations to move into freelancing full-time, building on the marketing and creative skills I'd developed. For the past four years, I've worked full-time with brands large and small, from startups to well-known organizations.
